The opportunity
The Foundation Learning department at Barnsley College has undergone a huge amount of growth over the last few years and we are now looking for a new Tutorial Learning Mentor to join our team.
Foundation Learning is a provision in place to enable students experiencing barriers to learning to progress onto a higher-level programme, where this might not previously have been possible.
For our mentors this can be challenging, but also extremely rewarding. We are looking for a person with the desire to work with disadvantaged young people and the emotional resilience to support them unconditionally. We work with class sizes of no more than 16, often much smaller groups to ensure that every student is getting the support they need.
Reasons to join us
The Barnsley College Advantage When you join us, you can expect to benefit from “The Barnsley College Advantage”. This is the advantage of:
About you
You will support our young people in a variety of ways such as academic support, emotional support or a smile and encouragement on a bad day. You will also plan and teach group tutorials on the Foundation Learning Study programmes at Level 1, which are delivered through project-based learning. We are looking for a Tutorial Learning Mentor who is innovative and willing to take risks to make their sessions engaging and exciting.
Ideally, you will have previous experience of working with disengaged young people and have a passion to make a difference; so that our students have a great time at college, achieve their aims and progress into further study or work.
Our new Tutorial Learning Mentor can be new to teaching or an experienced mentor. We are looking for someone who will work hard to transform the lives of our young people and support them onto a positive future.
Closing date for applications Monday 2nd December 2024 - We reserve the right to close this vacancy early depending on the level of interest.
